Macaw Clay Lick - 5 days

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado - Colorado

We will meet you at the airport and take by bus to Colorado. And spend the night at Basic Hotel,  next to Madre de Dios river,  4 to 5  hours away from Puerto Maldonado. 

Day 2: Colorado - Amazon Manu Lodge

Early in the morning we start our trip by motorized canoe up Madre De Dios River, in the way we are going to have the opportunity to see caiman, monkeys and birds, depending on the whether condition. After 4 our boat driving we will Arrive the Lodge where we are going to have our lunch,  afternoon walking the trails next to the lodge, and spending the night at AML lodge.

Day 3: Macaw Clay Lick -Tapir Mammal Clay Lick

On this day there will be a 45 minute boat ride down the Madre de Dios River, to the Macaw Clay Lick. At approximately 6am you will be treated to the sight of hundreds of Parakeets, Parrots and Macaw arriving at the lick to eat the clay. This really is a spectacular sight and is said to be one of the highlights of the trip. Species you can expect to see include: Red and Green Macaw, Yellow Crowned, Mealy, Blue Headed, Orange-Cheeked Parrot, Dusky Headed and White Eyed Parakeets.

After lunch your guide will take you to a platform overlooking a Mammal clay lick in the heart of the forest. Here you can experience the incredible sounds of the night whilst keeping an eye out for visitors to the clay lick. Dont worry if you fall a sleep, your guide will be on full alert and ready to wake you at the first sign of activity. Animals that may visit the clay lick are the Tapir (a large mammal found in the Amazon), Deer and the Agouti paca. Dinner will be served at the mammal clay lick platform and spend the night at the platform, which it has mosquito net, mattress and cover shit.

Day 4: Blanco Lake - Puerto Maldonado

Early in the morning you will visit the Blanco Lake, where we look for the family of Giant river otters, moving with the catamaran around the lake by paddling. We will continue our trip down river to Colorado, where we are going to take our car to Puerto Maldonado, spending the night at the Lodge or hotel in Puerto Maldonado.

Day 5: Transfer out:

Early in the morning we go for hiking in the forest and loockfor more wildlife activity. Breakfast and we transfer to the airport to catch the flight to Lima or cusco.
